GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering)

GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. It is conducted in eight different zones across India. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) jointly administer the conduct of GATE. They are conducting the test on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, National Coordinating Board, and Department of Education for the engineering graduates who want to seek admission in IITs ,IISC for the Post graduation. Some of the PSUs also recruit candidates depending on their GATE score card for their different departments.

In this test, out of 23 papers the aspirants has to appear for the only one depending on their qualifying degree. Of course they have the right to choose any paper but it should be related to the eligibility criteria of the institution they want to get admission in. Benefits of GATE Exam:

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is a national level exam that tests the knowledge of appearing candidates in undergraduate subjects in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and Postgraduate level subjects in Science. GATE Score is used for admission in M.E./M.Tech, PhD in centrally funded Indian technical Institutions. GATE Score is also used by many public and private sector undertakings for recruitment processes

Recruitment in Many Public Sector Undertaking:

NTPC, NHPC, GAIL, CONCOR, BEL, MECON, DDA, HECL, BEL, ONGC, IOCL, PGCIL, BHEL, BPCL, HPCL etc companies are showing interest to recruit the GATE 2017 qualified candidates. It is expected that in the coming years all the state level companies will show interest in recruiting the candidates who are GATE qualified. Many companies are giving importance to the GATE Score in their hiring process.

Research Institutes:

CSIR laboratories are also offering stipend of Rs 16000/- to Rs 28000/- to the candidates who have qualified the GATE. There are two type of fellowship which are based on stipend

  1. Junior Research Fellowship
  2. Senior Research Fellowship

Stipend in BARC:

The GATE score Card is mandatory for the admission in some institutes like BARC. DGFS (DAE Graduate Fellowship Scheme) fellows are paid a stipend of Rs. 20000 per month during the period of their training and a one-time book allowance of Rs.5,000/-.

Scholarships in ME/M.Tech:

MHRD gives a scholarship of Rs 12,400/- to GATE qualified students who wants to take admission in M.E and M.Tech courses. It is assistance for the students to complete their studies smoothly.

Library Funds:

The GATE qualified candidates is eligible for the library funds of Rs 5000/ per year if they took admission in UGC or AICET recognized institutes. This fund is given to the students to meet their needs of notes/ books/ CDs etc during their completion of courses of ME/ M.Tech

Master in Technology/Engineering:

GATE is a hope for the students who has missed the chance of study in the IIT’s during UG program, if qualified the GATE 2017 they get the chance of admission in the best institutes of the country to complete their Masters
